The history of Bucharest can be traced back to the 14th century when it was first mentioned in documents as a village called "Câmpulung". In the 16th century, it became the capital of Wallachia. The city grew rapidly in the 18th century, and by the end of the century it had a population of over 100,000. Bucharest became the capital of Romania in 1862. The city suffered extensive damage during World War II, but it was rebuilt and grew rapidly in the following decades. Today, Bucharest is the largest city in Romania and the 6th largest city in the European Union.

Helsinki is a city in Finland. It is the capital of Finland and the largest city in the Nordic countries. Helsinki is located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland. Helsinki was founded in 1550 by King Gustav Vasa of Sweden as a trading post to compete with Tallinn to the south in Estonia, which was then part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Helsinki was not designated as the capital of Finland until 1812. Helsinki was occupied by the Russian Empire during the Finnish War of 1808-1809 and again in 1812-1813. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, Finland declared its independence. Helsinki became the capital of the new Republic of Finland. During World War II, Helsinki was bombed by the Luftwaffe. Helsinki was the host city of the 1952 Summer Olympics.
