Munich is a city in southern Germany, the capital of the state of Bavaria. It is located on the River Isar north of the Bavarian Alps. Munich has a population of about 1.5 million people. The city is best known for its annual Oktoberfest beer festival, its architecture and its teams of soccer and ice hockey. Munich was founded in 1158 by Henry the Lion, the duke of Bavaria. The city became the capital of Bavaria in 1506. In 1806, Munich was annexed by Napoleon Bonaparte and became the capital of the Kingdom of Bavaria. After the unification of Germany in 1871, Munich became the capital of the new German state of Bavaria. The city was heavily damaged during World War II, but was rebuilt and is now one of the most prosperous cities in Europe.

The history of Bucharest can be traced back to the 14th century when it was first mentioned in documents as a village called "Câmpulung". In the 16th century, it became the capital of Wallachia. The city grew rapidly in the 18th century, and by the end of the century it had a population of over 100,000. Bucharest became the capital of Romania in 1862. The city suffered extensive damage during World War II, but it was rebuilt and grew rapidly in the following decades. Today, Bucharest is the largest city in Romania and the 6th largest city in the European Union.
