The city of Prague has a long and varied history. It was founded in the late 9th century and became the capital of the Bohemian kingdom in the early 12th century. The city played an important role in the Hussite Wars in the 15th century and was besieged by the Swedish army in 1648. Prague was also the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from 1867 to 1918. The city was occupied by the Nazis in 1939 and was the scene of the Prague Uprising in 1945. Since the fall of communism in 1989, Prague has become a popular tourist destination.

The history of Bucharest can be traced back to the 14th century when it was first mentioned in documents as a village called "Câmpulung". In the 16th century, it became the capital of Wallachia. The city grew rapidly in the 18th century, and by the end of the century it had a population of over 100,000. Bucharest became the capital of Romania in 1862. The city suffered extensive damage during World War II, but it was rebuilt and grew rapidly in the following decades. Today, Bucharest is the largest city in Romania and the 6th largest city in the European Union.

“Within all of us is a varying amount of space lint and star dust, the residue from our creation. Most are too busy to notice it, and it is stronger in some than others. It is strongest in those of us who fly and is responsible for an unconscious, subtle desire to slip into some wings and try for the elusive boundaries of our origin.” – K.O. Eckland
